Saving Together - Group-Based Approaches to Promote Youth Savings, Advancing Integrated Microfinance for Youth (2013) AIM Youth
This paper examines the potential of poor youth to harness the power of groups to develop positive savings behaviors and long-term savings habits. Because youth are at a stage in their lives when they are particularly susceptible to peer influence, groups can positively impact their financial behaviors through a group structure, integrated financial education and the dynamics of social pressure and social capital.

Poverty and Youth Unemployment in Nigeria, 1987-2011 (2012) John O. Aiyedogbon and Bright O. Ohwofasa
The study is crucial to the development of the Nigerian economy. The relevance of the present study well from the fact that Nigeria is ranked 158th on the human development index is unacceptable. The study employed incidence of poverty as a function of unemployment, agricultural, manufacturing and services contributions to real GDP, population and inflation rate in which the growth rate of the variables were modeled. The results of the study revealed that unemployment, agricultural and services contributions to real GDP as well as population have positive determining influence on poverty level in Nigeria with only agricultural sector statistically insignificant.

Higher Education and Poverty Reduction Among Youth in the Sub-Saharan Africa (2011) Matthew Borode
This paper is set out to examine how Higher education can be used to reduce poverty among the youth in the Sub-Saharan Africa. The paper addresses itself comprehensively to the subject matter. It examines the conditions of the youth and what poverty actually signifies. It also considers the situations of higher education in the Sub-Saharan Africa. It eventually came out with copious views on how higher education can be used to reduce poverty among the youth like relating the curricula to the need of the industrial education in the practical sense into the curriculum and create a linkage between the outside community and the higher institution.

Overwhelmed and Immobilized: Raising the Consciousness of Privileged Young Adults about World Hunger and Poverty (2009) Scott Seider
In this study are compared the shifts in worldview of affluent young adults participating in a course on social justice issues to a control group of similar young adults. In this course, participating students learned about the size, scope, causes, and impact of world hunger and global poverty.

Chronic, life-course and intergenerational poverty, and South-East Asian Youth (2004) Karen Moore
This paper draws upon work by the Chronic Poverty Research Centre to argue that the related concepts of chronic poverty, life-course poverty and intergenerational poverty are useful to understanding youth poverty. This is because the poverty experienced by youth is often linked to childhood deprivation and parental poverty, and – like poverty in childhood or in old age – it can have implications across an individual’s life-course, and that of her or his household. The paper draws upon evidence from six South-East Asian countries to explore these linkages. Estimates of youth in extreme poverty in South-East Asia are presented, based on a new child-centred approach to estimating childhood deprivation recently developed by Gordon et al (2003).

Youth in Extreme Poverty: dimensions and policy implications with particular focus on South East Asia (2004) Richard Curtain
The purpose of this paper is to present estimates of young people in poverty in the world, with particular reference to South East Asia. The paper also describes the efforts by countries in the latter region to overcome poverty among youth, both in terms of specific measures and as part of a more general strategy to reduce poverty. Reference is made to successful examples of pro poor interventions that help young people. However, attention is also given to the lessons that might be gained from efforts by governments and other agencies that have been less than successful.

Youth poverty and transition to adulthood in Europe (2006) Arnstein Aassve, Maria Iacovou, Letizia Mencarini
There is an increasing amount of research focussing on the transition to adulthood, a stage of the life cycle where young people face demanding life decisions, including completion of education, finding stable employment, and establishing their household and family. Whereas there is a well-developed literature on poverty among households in general, very little research has focused on poverty among young adults. Using the European Community Household Panel (ECHP) we provide a detailed description of youth poverty in Europe. Across the European Union youth poverty varies greatly, being higher in Southern European countries, as well as in the ‘liberal’ regimes of the UK and Ireland. However, there are also large variations in the extent of youth poverty within countries, between what we might term “younger youth” (aged 16-19) and “older youth” aged (25-29). In the UK, poverty rates among “younger youth” are much higher than among “older youth”, suggesting that poverty among young people is closely associated with child poverty. In the Scandinavian countries, poverty peaks dramatically in the early twenties, indicating that in these countries, poverty is associated with leaving home.
